Inflatable Costume Relay Race – Obstacle Course Edition
Objective:
Teams will compete in a relay-style race while navigating an obstacle course in inflatable costumes. Each heat features two teams racing head-to-head, with the winning team advancing to the next round. The last team standing is crowned the champion!
Team & Race Format:
- Each team consists of four participants.
- Two teams will race in each heat, with the winning team advancing to the next round.
- The race takes place on a designated obstacle course, which must be completed before passing the baton to the next teammate.
- The tournament follows a single-elimination format, or double-elimination if time allows.
Race Rules:
- Starting the Race:
- The first racer from each team will start at the designated starting line.
- When the race begins, they must navigate the obstacle course before passing the baton to the next teammate.
- Obstacle Course Navigation:
- Participants must complete each obstacle as intended before moving to the next.
- Obstacles may include:
- Tire run – stepping through marked circles or low hurdles.
- Tunnel crawl – crawling under a low clearance.
- Balance beam – walking across a narrow surface.
- Hurdles – jumping over or maneuvering around obstacles.
- Spin zone – spinning in place a set number of times before continuing.
- If a racer skips an obstacle, they must go back and complete it before advancing.
- Baton Exchange:
- The relay baton (or designated prop) must be handed off within the marked exchange zone.
- The next racer cannot leave the exchange zone until they have received the baton.
- Costume Requirements:
- Costumes must remain fully inflated throughout the race.
- If a costume deflates, the participant must pause and re-inflate it before continuing.
- Course Conduct:
- No pushing, tripping, or intentionally obstructing other racers.
- Participants must stay within the designated course boundaries at all times.
- If a racer falls, they may get up and continue, but they cannot receive outside assistance.
- Winning the Race & Advancing:
- The first team to have all four members complete the course and cross the finish line wins the heat.
- Winning teams advance to the next round until the final race determines the champion.
- Disqualifications:
- Teams may be disqualified for:
- Unsportsmanlike conduct.
- Skipping obstacles without completing them.
- Improper baton exchanges.
- Failure to keep costumes inflated.
